Featured Picture of the Day!

piggys!
After being a loyal subscriber for over 2 years to this wonderful photographers network site My Shutterspace, I finally get recognized for POTD! Although this is a super cute shot, this one is not my favorite. And since I posted my first favorite along with this one-I was surprised to see this one being chosen for the pick of the day! But that's just me, I'm not a judgey, just somebody who adores photographing cute kids and pets! I am humbled and lucky to have worked with such a beautiful model! Give this girl some CANDY!

Cutey pie shines on a Memorial Day weekend shoot

Freedom to be a kid in America
She definitely shines with happiness and no fear. It's sweet and adorable and innocent and tugs at your heart strings. 3 year olds are a dream to photograph. They will agree with you most of the time and work with the photographer to ham it up. This is one of the many beautiful shots of her. And ultimately my favorite pick. It makes you go aaaawww. I like the candid, no dress up, messy hair, casual clothes, runny nose, kid kickin around the yard/neighborhood with not a care in the world. It's natural and relaxed. This is the true authentic people portrait style that I love. Whether it's pets or kids-I think I love it. This is why we honor men and women who fought and died for our freedom. Free spirit. Freedom to choose. Freedom to be. Just freedom to be a kid in America.

Cool happy face can of Ricos cheese

This is a strange post but relates to items I like and think are worthy of a post. I love design and cool graphics on signs and advertisement and this one struck me as something that looks like it's straight out of the 50's. Most grocery store products are either dull and boring or extreme with 3d stupid graphics. This one is 2d cartoony and I LOVE it! It seriously convinces you that this cheese stuff is totally awesome and YUMMY to eat! (It is) Yay for the company to maintain their logo that evokes good happy 'cheesy' (sorry about the pun) product design! RICOS is he bomb! The cheese head is a reminder of a current wacky cartoon character named 'meatwad' on adult swim cartoon network. Doesn't it? Mmmm concession cheese.

Black Lab green machine discovery page

We took a long puppydog walk around the quiet neighborhood of mine (no one seems to walk their pets-the poor things are all trapped in their homes and are quite jealous of the walks we take) and along the way we discover a green and yellow polka dotted squeak ball. It was hidden in the park and since it seemed to be all alone-I grabbed it and gave it a home. Kenobi has claimed it and I have named it his 'green machine'. It's peculiar that dogs like to put stinky items in their mouths. He'll squeak on this wet slobbery squish ball til he's bored and then move to his spiky rock hard nylabone. Yikes, that thing is a pain in the arse when stepped on.

Senior portrait page second shoot Omaha

f5.6 1/500 iso 800 40-150mm
Classic, semi formal casual dressy. She's pretty and edgy. I love the process of shooting different locations with different styles. I'm aiming for very unusual angles to bring something unique to the image. She is so grown up and I need to photograph her from a much more different perspective. I need to bring elements that are uniquely Leia-music, art, fashion, fun, creative, smart, sophisticated, stylish and edgy. Oh yeah, beautiful too.

Grandma, me and puppy portrait

I snapped this photograph of Leia and Gaga and the new doberman puppy last winter and stumbled across it in my collection of folders just last night. Leia was in a hurry to play with her BFFs-but loves her Gaga and knows how important family photos are regardless of the bitter cold. Black and white photographs are dramatic and classic and I love the how the details are crisp and sharp. I would never remove any wrinkles as I don't seem to have a big issue with them. Sweet and candid.

Self portrait of photographer and pet

As you can see this is my first attempt at self portraiture. It's quite a challenge to angle the camera just right to include the subjects AND keep it in focus somewhat AND of course create some interesting comp. I wanted to create a story behind the image. This one says,'The photographer is seriously focused on getting the shot right with the new camera she's learning about every day and not really concerned with how dopey she looks, and the adorable pet pom has experienced being photographed a number of times by the sleepy, trusting his owner look on his face!'

Black Kitty cat page at home in Omaha

spooky black kitty cat f1.4 1/500 iso 800 50mm
I've created these mini pages for my subjects. They're kinda like a collage but I don't like the word collage very much. It's a page. The subject is a black cat. They are photographed in their favorite most comfortable spot ever-bed at home. I love my new background colors-aqua and magenta! What a fabulous looking black kitty cat!

Brand new favicon design for Puppycat Photography

I need to design a new logo for my website-again a very simple and uncomplicated design-but I've been sidetracked and decided to come up with a favicon instead. You see them all the time and MOST websites have them. Your 'favorite icon' next to your bookmarks. A seriously teeny weeny 16 x 16px in size. I took a favorite image that wasn't too busy and came up with the cutest (imho) lil icon for Puppycat photography. My lil furbz. I like. Go ahead and bookmark my website Puppycat photography, you'll like it too!

Brand new Puppycat Photography Website!

I have spent an awful long time researching the perfect website for Puppycat photography. (Please click on the new website link to the right of the blog page here!) For 6 months I have been stalking several 'photography' websites and made my final decision on Friday of last week. Photobiz is the one I chose simply because of the ease of use, cool designs an affordability. Did I mention the super cool designs to chose from are totally awesome! Now, I don't want a flashy or dynamic or an over the top extreme website. I wanted a simple and classic design with no frills. Once I made the leap, I was all over this for 48 hrs non stop uploading and SEO'ing and assembling and designing this like a MANIAC. It was never complicated and easy to navigate. It's still under construction in some areas and I have to update some more high res images. Other than that, I have this guy up and running in NO time! I love that it's right click protected! It's clean, modern, uncluttered, classic, simple, to the point, showcases my work and non confusing. I'm in love w/Photobiz!

Senior portrait page first shoot

This senior portrait session was a last minute request by Leia. So by the time she rolls out of bed (on a teacher work day) and decides it's a good idea to take some photographs of herself because she looks hip and stylish, the time is 4pm and the lighting is kinda harsh and windy outside. At the local park we discover this amazing secluded wooded area where the lighting is somewhat decent. I had a heck of a time metering and correcting the white balance(her patience was running thin), but in the end after 10(!!) minutes of shoot time, I see that 5 images are spectacular after all. This start of senior portrait photography could be a good thing for me. I love the dramatic and edgy 'Twilight' look with a twist of sunshine! She looks to the sky with a bright thoughtful mind. Maybe a little too serious? Next location will be a field or an urban area. Can't wait!

Chihuahua puppy Chichi Triptych Council Bluffs Ia

chichi seeping
These 3 also known as a 'triptych' in art lingo, are my FAVORITE!! Chichi is such a girly girl fancy shmancy pup with bubbly hyper level 5 energy. It appears as if she is shy and timid and has possibly some insecurity issues. No way, she's a wild child/free spirit puppy girl and I truly love Chihuahua's now more than ever. Even spelling the word 'Chihuahua' is a hoot. Yo quiro taco bell anyone? Love it.
