modern look for a memorial day

on this sad day to reflect on those who have sacraficed for us-i just love the freedom we have in the us of a. i need remind myself every day never to take living free for granted. it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of a stressfull spoilt american life. so i bring you images of some of mans best friend. this is the ultimate stress reliever. just look at those furry faces. simple, uncluttered, calm and classic looks. this is the style i strive for. these images were shot in raw format just because i think it would be a smart idea in the future to adopt. i know the files are huge (10mb) sometimes but i refuse to lose any data. once the are imported they need to be instantly copied to my hd AND a dvd. btw, raw images are converted to jpg if you drag and drop to the hd or desktop. so i MUST copy to dvd. these sre space hoggers let me tell you. but i am sooo happy with the results. i slow down and take better quality images. and i am real aggressive with deleting the crap shots. only the best. shot with the 40-150mm-he is a slow lens-ickk! but fantastic results! the colors are vivid. take kenobi the dooofusss for example. iso at 800 on furbz and kenobz. focal length 150mm. f5.6 and 1/400 (kenobi) 1/250 (furby). the catchlight in their eye is there! that's what we loooove. home of the free, because of the brave baby.

furby the cublet

he is such a charmer with his fluff and stuff. he reminds me of a bear cub. iso 100. 1/1250. f5.6. focal length at 150mm. this shot is just plain hilarious. next time when i'm more prepared i'll set up a tripod and set the shutter to lightning fast speeds. it's interesting to see what turns out.

peppes upset

back in 2005 when leia and i took us a trip to norway, peppe's pizza was the bomb. it was leia's favorite restaurant in oslo. and boy oh boy did she look forward to visiting it again in 2010. only this time around it just plain sucked. from the service to the salad to the weird buffet with corn everywhere!!!! i spose the only thing that was a success was the images you see right here right now. mom's canon happy snap that is totally awesome. and my happysnap olympus from 05-3 megapixals camedia-not too shabby. the images from 05 are edited-not any of the ones from 2010. oh and maybe some of that there norsk beer too. mmmm tastey goodness. okay maybe the sodapop was decent. no way, that stuff was flat man!! uff da!!

the fun time kids

i discovered this in my closet and thought to myself-hey, i still like this 2d stuff. this was a side project my late husband james put together and i still laugh at the wackiness. sid and marty kroft??!! yes, we, the fun time kids, were in a cartoon together. no way!!! yes, no way. jist fictional. kimmy and jimmy. it is actually painted on an animation cell and displayed over an air brushed painting. all by hand. the real deal. no painter X digital stuff involved here. 11X17. i just might use my character for future projects. wacky indeed. but i love it and will forever cherish it.

in my own world, shooting some abstract images, and look what i come up with. a screen shot of tron. this is a view of one of the upscale malls in oslo called 'paletet'-the t is silent. iso 400, f3.5, 1/125. focal length is 54mm. there are many escalators and also up and downscalators. anything that saves time.

konge slottet

the only time in our lives we've ever witnessed the changing of the guard! and yes the king and queen of norway do live inside here. this is their home sweet home. as you can see leia got a kick out of this. it was a bitter cold day but well worth it. mom, leia and i had a royal good time. iso 200, f5.6 (except for the wide castle image-that one ought to have been at f22, but dumbass me set it to f8, those tourists spoiled it anyway.) 1/60. i think by converting the image to black and white in the end, overlooking karl johans gate it set a sort of mood of bitter coldness and gloom for leia-she was a grump of a teen and ready to move on to the only thing on her mind-shopping. gagamomo looks surprised-but she knows better.

alley cat

i met this guy on a walk through my childhood neighborhood. let's call him alley. he was friendly but cautious. and he kept walking into the morning bright light and then back into the deep shade. so i had to jump from iso 100 to 400 and it was extremely frustrating. believe it or not but i shot this image LAST! the only one that i was satisfied with. he appears quite stately and confident like he rules this territory. iso 400, f5.6, 1/320. btw, 1/320 should be the MINIMUM speed for shooting pets. they fidget, wiggle, twitch and squirm EVERY second. not only that but a heap of patience is required. alley rules today.

walk to school

i took leia on a walk around my old hood. it was a gloomy day for her and great conditions for shooting for me. the temps were around 45-60 degrees about every day and of course overcast. our fingers and pinkies were frigid. i was aiming for something abstract. and i think that was accomplished. the image of leia with the graffiti backdrop is about as cool as the one image in denmark. it's shot on top of the bridge crossing the train. i walked here many hundred times. it's all about the graffiti. i'm interested in the bold, graphic, geometric comps. it's a good thing to mix things up a little. iso at 200 or 400. it's a dreary day you know.

daisy single

this was part of a fresh cut flower in a teeny weeny jug type vase. originally full color edited for black and white and cleaned up. i like the tonal ranges in this one. especially in the vase shape. diffused lighting is fantastic. it's simple and organic and pleasant to look at. iso 200. f7. 1/6. focal length 54mm. so i guess this is my macro project.

Sassy Magazine

my fave magazine from back in the punk rock/grunge days of the 90's. sassy! a mag that I've saved for almost 20 years. nirvana was the best and a classic in my book. too bad miss love screwed it up. i think kurt was a troubled kid with brilliant mind. a poor thing who is no longer suffering. i'm posting this because i just sold this thing for $64.00 on eBay. my first sale. i hope the lucky winner will treasure it like i did.
